Nochebuena: a holiday novella – Stephanie Shea

Nochebuena: a holiday novella – Stephanie Shea

Rating: 5/5

Stephanie Shea is one of my favourite Sapphic fiction writers. I have read pretty much everything she has published so far.

Nochebuena was basically a little holiday snack which I devoured far too quickly.

Camila Morales and Sutton Davies have been married for three years, together for five and seem to be experiencing some hiccups largely because they are not communicating effectively. It doesn’t help that Camila’s parents whose relationship has shaped her idea of marriage are getting divorced after 30 years of what seemed like the perfect relationship.

The novella is about Camila and Sutton finding their way back to each other over the holiday season.

Stephanie Shea writes multi-dimensional complex characters of colour whose love is gentle and sweet.

Nochebuena stays true to this but also offers a light and fluffy take that is just right for holiday reading.

I loved this book (disclaimer: I’m very biased) and I enjoyed meeting some of the characters from previous books that I love. My only problem is that it was quite short: I had to read it slowly just to prolong it.
